Mid-Back Pain

Mid-back pain or stiffness is a very common complaint we see and provide care to assist with. It is commonly caused by misalignments in the thoracic spine.
Common causes of mid-back pain:

  • Facet joint sprains;
  • Poor posture;
  • Intercostal joint sprains; and/or
  • Degenerative joint disease.

Early signs

  • Muscular stiffness;
  • Discomfort between shoulder blades;
  • Decreased range of motion;
  • Constant dull ache; and/or
  • Mild headaches.

More severe cases may have:

  • Pain with breathing;
  • Sharp pain between shoulder blades;
  • Moderate to severe headaches; and/or
  • Rarely pain can refer into the chest.
